TDF Praises Rescue of Abducted Oyo Pupils, Faults Opposition’s Reaction

The Democratic Front, TDF, has welcomed the successful rescue of 44 pupils and teachers abducted by terrorists in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, describing the operation as a major achievement in the Federal Government’s fight against terrorism and kidnapping.

In a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Danjuma Muhammad, and Secretary, Wale Adedayo, the group commended the security agencies for what it described as a well-coordinated rescue operation, praising their professionalism and collaboration.

According to the group, the successful rescue of the victims, who were kidnapped on May 15, 2026, represents a significant milestone in the Tinubu administration’s efforts to combat insecurity since assuming office in May 2023.

The forum expressed satisfaction that the victims were rescued safely and urged the security agencies to sustain the momentum in ongoing operations against terrorists and other criminal elements across the country.

The group, however, criticised some opposition leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Coalition, Peter Obi, over what it described as their muted reaction following the rescue of the victims.

It alleged that the opposition figures, who had criticised the Federal Government over the abduction, had remained largely silent since the successful rescue operation was announced.

The Democratic Front further claimed that the opposition had failed to present alternative policy proposals to challenge the Tinubu administration’s economic reforms, alleging that their criticisms were aimed at discrediting the government’s achievements.

According to the group, the successful rescue operation had undermined attempts to use the Oyo abduction as a political issue ahead of the 2027 general elections.

It also accused the opposition of refusing to acknowledge what it described as the administration’s achievements in the areas of security, infrastructure and economic development over the past three years.

The group urged the Federal Government and security agencies to remain focused on consolidating recent gains in the fight against insecurity and intensify efforts to rid the country of terrorists, bandits and other criminal groups.
