BREAKING: Tinubu Appoints Ilorin-born Professor Abikan as DG NIALS

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Ilorin-born Professor Abdulquadir Ibrahim Abikan as the substantive Director General of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS).
Professor Abikan, a renowned lecturer in the Department of Islamic Law at the University of Ilorin, succeeds Professor Muhammed Tawfiq Ladan, who completed his five-year term.
INCNews247 reports that Professor Abikan’s appointment, which takes effect from November 25, 2024, is for a single term of five years.

The appointment letter, signed by Mrs. B.E Jedi-Agba, Solicitor-General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Justice, stated that the appointment is in conformity with the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies Act, 1984, and the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions (Amendment) Act No 25 of 1996.
The letter dated 5th of December, 2024 and titled, “Appointment as Director-General Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies”, said, “I write to inform you of your appointment as Director-General and Council Member of Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies.”
Professor Abikan is a seasoned academic with a strong background in Islamic Law, corporate management, and business ethics.
He has taught at various universities in Nigeria and internationally, including the International Islamic University Malaysia and the University Brunei Darussalam.
His research focuses on Islamic banking and finance, constitutional law, and environmental law.
As the new Director General of NIALS, Professor Abikan is expected to bring his wealth of experience and expertise to drive the Institute’s mission of advancing legal education and research in Nigeria.
