Tinubu Unveils State-of-the-Art NITDA ICT Centre in Kwara

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has commissioned a state-of-the-art ICT Community Centre at the Kwara State College of Education in Ilorin, as part of the Renewed Hope Initiative’s (RHI) social investment program.

 

The centre, constructed by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), aims to bridge the digital divide and empower communities, particularly women and youth.

 

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Senator Tinubu commended NITDA for its efforts in constructing four Community ICT Centres across the country, with two more in Benue and Oyo states set to be commissioned soon.

 

She also highlighted the establishment of Digital Economy Centres in 15 states, equipped with computers and ICT materials, to promote digital literacy and skills.

The First Lady emphasized the importance of ICT in empowering women and girls, enabling them to break traditional barriers and access new opportunities.

 

She noted that the knowledge of ICT serves as a vital tool for empowering communities, especially women, and enables them to participate in the global economy and support their families.

 

Senator Tinubu urged community members to take ownership of the centre, stressing that its success depends on their active participation and utilization of resources.

 

She expressed her delight at hearing about the success stories and opportunities the centres are affording members of various communities, particularly women and girls.

 

Kwara State Governor, Malam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, praised the initiative, noting that technology is crucial for securing a prosperous future.

 

He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the First Lady, and NITDA’s management for the “impactful initiative.”

 

NITDA’s Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa, emphasized the centre’s role in strengthening the digital economy and enhancing citizens’ digital fluency.

 

He noted that the project aligns with President Tinubu’s commitment to harnessing the potential of digital innovation to drive national prosperity and inclusivity.

 

The ICT Community Centre is equipped with 48 computer sets, e-learning facilities, alternative power sources, and internet connectivity.

 

The centre is designed to provide a conducive environment for learning and skills acquisition, with a focus on promoting digital literacy and entrepreneurship.

 

Inuwa highlighted the importance of digital literacy in today’s economy, noting that it is essential for Nigeria’s growth and development.

 

He emphasized NITDA’s commitment to promoting digital literacy and skills across the country, particularly in rural and underserved communities.

 

The event was attended by dignitaries, including the Imo State Governor, Chief Hope Uzodinma, the wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Shettima, Wife of the Senate President, Wife of the Speaker of the House of Representative, Wife of the National Security Adviser, some state governors’ wives, and other top government officials.
