Troops Foil Terrorist Attack, Decimate 34 Insurgents in Borno State

In a decisive operation, Nigerian troops has successfully repelled an attack by ISWAP/BHT terrorists in Sabon Gari town, Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, killing at least 34 insurgents.
The incident occurred on January 4, 2025, when the terrorists, riding motorcycles and gun trucks, engaged troops in a fierce firefight
According to Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, the terrorists attempted to surprise the troops and retaliate against the recent killing of their commander and combatants.
However, the troops were able to foil the attack, recovering 23 AK-47 rifles and over 200 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

During the operation, six soldiers paid the ultimate price, defending the nation’s territorial integrity.
The Defence Headquarters has withheld the names of the fallen personnel until their families are formally notified.
The troops’ reinforcement team, comprising elements of the Civilian Joint Taskforce, vigilantes, and hybrid forces, timely arrived at the scene to overpower the terrorists.
Despite encountering an improvised explosive device that injured the Vigilante Commander, the reinforcement team successfully decimated the fleeing insurgents.
The air component of Operation HADIN KAI conducted air interdiction on the retreating terrorists, resulting in further casualties and weapon recoveries.
The Battle Damage Assessment revealed several killed terrorists and recovered weapons.
