Troops Arrest 43 Terror Suspects, Rescue 362 Victims in One Week

The Armed Forces of Nigeria have arrested 43 suspected terrorists, informants, gunrunners and logistics suppliers while rescuing at least 362 kidnapped and abducted victims in nationwide operations conducted within one week.
The Defence Headquarters, DHQ disclosed this on Friday, saying the successes were recorded between July 31 and August 6 across the North-East, North-West, North-Central, South-East and South-South theatres of operation.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, said the operations also led to the surrender of 20 persons linked to terrorist groups, the interception of large caches of arms and ammunition, and the disruption of criminal networks.

According to him, the biggest breakthrough came under Operation Savannah Shield, where troops rescued 308 abducted persons, mostly women and children, from the Kainji Lake National Park in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
Of the rescued victims, 163 were from Kwara State while 145 were from Niger State.
He said troops also rescued 31 civilians from terrorists along the Buratai-Kamuya Road in Borno State, four captives from a terrorist enclave in Gwoza, seven kidnap victims in Benue State, two abductees in Kogi State and 11 travellers kidnapped along the Lagos-Benin highway in Edo State.
Onoja said the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, commended troops for their resilience and urged Nigerians to continue supporting security agencies with credible intelligence.
