The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, has charged troops of the 2 National Mission Force Brigade in Southern Kaduna to intensify efforts at tackling terrorism, kidnapping, cattle rustling and other forms of criminality within their area of operations.
Oluyede gave the charge during an operational visit to the Brigade stationed in Samaru Kataf, according to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba.
The CDS said the visit was aimed at assessing the combat readiness of troops and identifying operational challenges confronting the formation with a view to improving efficiency in ongoing military operations across Southern Kaduna.
Addressing the troops, Oluyede expressed satisfaction with their alertness and professionalism but urged them not to relent in efforts to restore lasting peace in the region.
“You must keep outwitting criminals by anticipating their actions and evolving effective countermeasures,” he said.

The defence chief added, “You must remain committed, professional and dedicated to your duties. We will continue to support you with the necessary equipment, enablers and platforms, while also paying due attention to your welfare to ensure your success.”
The military chief noted that the Armed Forces remained determined to eliminate all forms of insecurity in the area, particularly terrorism, banditry and kidnapping, which he said had posed serious threats to residents before the establishment of the Brigade in 2024.
Earlier in his briefing, the Commander of the 2 National Mission Force Brigade, Captain (NN) O.J. Ekuma, highlighted some of the operational successes recorded by the formation.
According to him, troops of the Brigade have neutralised several criminals, recovered weapons and rustled cattle, rescued kidnapped victims and arrested high-profile bandits as well as their collaborators.
Ekuma also stated that the Brigade had disrupted the movement of bandits and other criminal elements within its joint operations area, leading to improved security across parts of Southern Kaduna.
“As a formation, we have continued to sustain aggressive operations aimed at denying criminals freedom of action within our area of responsibility,” he said.
During the visit, the CDS inspected ongoing Defence Headquarters projects and military deployments in the area.
He also directed the provision of critical operational equipment and platforms said to be inadequate within the Brigade.
The visit was accompanied by the Chief of Defence Operations, Major General JH Abdussalam, the General Officer Commanding 3 Division, Major General EF Oyinlola, and other senior military officers.
