“Although the details of their release remain classified due to ongoing operations, this development indicates a willingness by some terrorist leaders and combatants to surrender to troops,” Major General Buba stated.
This breakthrough follows the successful rescue of Squadron Leader Nurudeen Abiodun Popoola, Dr. Popoola’s husband, on March 8, 2024, and the liberation of several other hostages held captive by terrorists in the North Central theatre of operations.
The Defence Headquarters, DHQ, views this development as a positive sign, mirroring similar situations in the North East, where terrorist elements are showing willingness to surrender.
Major General Buba emphasized, “Ending the insecurity plaguing our nation requires a collective effort from all stakeholders, beyond military action alone.”
The Defence Headquarters, DHQ, assures that further details will be provided in due course.
