As Muslims celebrate Eid-el-Fitr, the National Population Commission (NPC) has called on Muslim leaders in Nigeria to use the opportunity to sensitise and mobilise the masses to participate in the upcoming 2023 Population and Housing Census.
In a press statement released by the Director of Public Affairs, Dr. Isiaka Yahaya, the commission congratulated the faithful for completing the month-long Ramadan fast and emphasised that preparations are in the final stages for the commission to deliver the country’s first fully digital Population and Housing Census.
According to the statement, Nigeria’s 2023 Census will be fully digital and conducted in line with the United Nations Principles and Recommendations for the 2020 Programme on Population and Housing Censuses, which will make it difficult to manipulate figures.
The commission also stressed that the methodology of the exercise will ensure that everyone resident in the country at the time of enumeration is counted.
The commission urged Muslim faithful to uphold the vital lessons of Ramadan, including piety, generousity, perseverance, and peaceful coexistence among others, while congratulating them on the occasion of this year’s Eid-el-Fitr.
