FRSC Mourns Victims of Niger Tanker Explosion, Calls for Stricter Safety Measures

The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has expressed his condolences to the families of the victims of the fuel tanker fire that occurred at the Dikko junction in Niger state on Saturday, January 18, 2025.
The incident resulted in the loss of ovet 70 lives, with several others injured.
Mohammed described the human losses as “disheartening and disastrous,” emphasizing that such incidents must never be allowed to happen again.

He urged tanker operators to adhere strictly to safety standards and observe due protocols when transloading fuel products.
The FRSC boss expressed concern that despite the Corps’ sustained enlightenment programs, many people still fell victim to the tanker incident.
He stressed the importance of inter-agency collaboration and robust engagement with the public to prevent such incidents.
Mohammed revealed that the FRSC teams have been directed to sustain joint operations with other stakeholders to ensure effective traffic management and prevent further incidents.
The accident investigation unit of the Corps will also work with other agencies to determine the causes of the incident and propose solutions to prevent future occurrences.
The Corps Marshal assured Nigerians that the FRSC will continue to work with stakeholders and the public to find lasting solutions to road-based emergencies.
He called for the involvement of all Nigerians in the joint efforts to ensure safety and security on the roads.
Mohammed commended the prompt intervention of the Executive Governor of Niger State, who was physically present at the scene.
He also appealed for support for the families of the survivors and prayed for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives in the inferno.
