Group Hails Trump’s Commendation of Tinubu Over Anti-terrorism Efforts

The Democratic Front, TDF has welcomed the reported commendation by United States President Donald Trump on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to combat terrorism, describing it as an affirmation of the Federal Government’s commitment to improving security in Nigeria.

The group, in a statement signed by its Chairman, Danjuma Muhammad, and Secretary, Wale Adedayo, said the message from the US President underscored the Tinubu administration’s resolve to make the country safer.

According to the statement, the reported commendation came at a time when the administration had intensified efforts to restore peace and security in Nigeria and the West African sub-region.

The TDF argued that the development also disproved what it described as earlier misinformation about Nigeria’s security situation, claiming that negative propaganda had sought to mislead the US government and damage diplomatic relations between both countries.

The group said President Tinubu demonstrated diplomatic maturity in responding to previous tensions between Nigeria and the United States, adding that subsequent diplomatic engagements helped strengthen bilateral cooperation.

It further claimed that enhanced military collaboration between Nigeria and the United States, particularly in intelligence sharing and precision operations, had contributed to disrupting terrorist camps operating around Nigeria’s borders with Niger, Chad, Cameroon and Benin Republic.

According to the forum, the collaboration had also strengthened the intelligence-gathering capacity of Nigeria’s security agencies and contributed to a reduction in security breaches across the country.

The group maintained that the reported commendation from Trump reflected growing international recognition of the Tinubu administration’s efforts to tackle terrorism and banditry since assuming office in May 2023.

It added that the development also countered criticisms by opposition politicians over the country’s security situation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The TDF urged Nigerians not to politicise issues of national security, stressing that all stakeholders should support ongoing efforts to address insecurity in the country.
