Man Earns Room in Okekura Custodial Centre for Beating Lawyer in Kwara

Toyin Hakeem, who is accused of assaulting Lawyer Saludeen Olarongbe Abdulrahman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ilorin chapter, has been remanded by an Ilorin magistrate court.

The unpleasant occurrence allegedly took place when the said lawyer went to identify himself as the new owner of the property Hakeem and other tenants occupy.

According to the Direct Complaint (DC) filed before Magistrate Abdulraheem Bello, the assaulted barrister went to Hakeem’s apartment, knocked it door hard several times with no response. As a result, the complainant kept knocking, assuming that Hakeem was home but had not heard the knocks on the door.

The DC further revealed that Hakeem opened the door furiously while Abdulrahman informed him of being a lawyer and owner of the property he occupies but Hakeem demanded for Identity Card which he could not produce at that point.

Th defendant (Hakeem), was reportedly assaulted the complainant of being a fake lawyer, a car thief, then further descended on him ‘mercilessly’ with the assistance of two other persons whom he invited for the operation.

According to a source, “After beaten him to satisfaction, the lawyer was tied down with rope and was made to lie down on his stomach helplessly for 40 minutes before elders in the community surfaced to beg for his release.

On the allegation of car theft, Abdulrahman was invited at the Adewole Police Station where he was detained and later Police Headquarters.

Meanwhile, NBA, Ilorin Branch, under the chairmanship of Barr. Kamaldeen Gambari was able to secure his release from the police detention.

Chairman of the NBA, Barrister Gambari, who represented his colleague, informed the court of the various offences allegedly committed by Hakeem including but not limited to Criminal conspiracy, grievious hurt, false charge, Assault, unlawful restraint and the need to order his remand as deterrent for others who may want to indulge in molestation of others.

Magistrate Abdulraheem Bello, who presided over the matter therefore ordered the remand of Hakeem in Correctional facility centre, Okekura till 5th of December, 2022 for hearing.
