NIMC Warns NIN Users on Device, Browser Restrictions for Data Modification
By Alabidun Shuaib AbdulRahman
The National Identity Management Commission, NIMC has cautioned Nigerians using its self-service portal for National Identification Number, NIN modification to strictly adhere to device and browser rules or risk losing access to their accounts.
NIMC said each self-service account is tied to the exact browser and device used during registration, meaning attempts to log in from a different browser or device could trigger access denial. The Commission also warned that clearing a browser’s cache would reset the system and potentially lock the account, which would then require an unlinking process to restore.

The agency added that users with locked accounts would have only five unlock requests before being permanently barred from making further attempts.
“These are some of the measures we have put in place to safeguard and protect the identity of users of the self-service modification portal,” NIMC’s Head of Corporate Communications Unit, Dr. Kayode Adegoke, said in a statement on Thursday. “We urge all users to carefully follow these guidelines to avoid unnecessary disruptions and delays. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated as the Commission continues to safeguard your data and improve service delivery.”
