NOA Activates Intelligence Network to Thwart Planned Protests

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has mobilized its civil intelligence network involving its over 800 offices to identify potential hotspots and individuals involved in planned protests across the country.
INCNews247 gathered that this move comes as security agencies warn against the protests, citing potential threats to national security.
Recall, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had recently said some individuals under investigation are mobilizing youths, including school children, to protest against the government.

Therefore, NOA Director General, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, urged parents and well-meaning Nigerians to advise their wards against participating in the protests, stating that the promoters seek to destabilize the country and disrupt investigations into their activities.
“While we respect citizens’ right to protest, evidence suggests that corrupt elements under investigation or prosecution are behind this plot, seeking to exploit the protest and threaten national peace and security,” Issa-Onilu said.
He added, “A group has been recruiting young Nigerians, including students, through social media to protest against the EFCC’s operational activities, particularly in enforcing cybercrime laws.”
The NOA has directed its 4,000 staff to support security agencies in preventing a breakdown of law and order.
The agency also urged Nigerians to report suspicious activities to the nearest EFCC office or law enforcement agency or through the “Say Something” platform on the NOA app, Mobiliser.
“We will continue to provide channels for citizens’ feedback on government policies, programmes, and activities,” Issa-Onilu assured.
