NUC Recognizes Kwara State University of Education

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has recognized Kwara State University of Education, Ilorin, as the 64th State University and 274th University in the Nigerian University System.
The recognition was announced in Abuja on Tuesday during the formal presentation of the strategic documents, including the relevant gazetted University Law, Academic Brief, and Physical Master Plan to the commission by a delegation led by Kwara State Deputy Governor, Kayode Alabi, and Professor Shuaib Oba Abdulraheem.
According to the Acting Executive Secretary of the Commission, Chris J. Maiyaki, “The recognition is consequent upon the receipt of the Kwara State Government’s letter dated 15th July, 2024, notifying NUC of the establishment of the University.”

Maiyaki urged the Kwara state government to take full advantage of the professional and technical guidance provided by the Commission, saying, “We are statutorily required to provide guidance on the establishment, sustainable funding, and operation of the university.”
Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, represented by his deputy Kayode Alabi, expressed happiness over the development, saying, “We are delighted to receive this recognition from the NUC, and we promise to do everything necessary to ensure the university takes off seamlessly.
“We will invest in the necessary infrastructure, human resources, and facilities to make the university a center of excellence. We are committed to providing quality education to our people, and this university will be a testament to that commitment.”

In his remarks, Professor Shuaib Oba Abdulraheem, the Chairman of the Committee, noted that “In the entire Northern Nigeria, Kwara is reputed to be a state where the only industry that is viable is education.
“We have as a committee taken our jobs and assignments religiously, knowing that our Governor will take nothing but excellence.
“We have spent the past eight months working day and night to bring about the event of today, to present to you a trophy we have carved out for ourselves again in Kwara State, and that is the Kwara State University of Education.”
Earlier, the Honorable Minister of Youths, Jemila Bio, commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his transformational leadership, saying, “The recognition goes a long way to reaffirm the position of Kwara State as one of the citadels of learning in our country.

“We have several colleges of education, and having a University of Education is to really consolidate the efforts of all the stakeholders and educators across board in the state, and of course, it will go a long way to drive the economy of Kwara State.
“I will like to reaffirm my commitment as a daughter of Kwara State and as a member of the Federal Executive Council to ensure that the university takes off seamlessly and will do all within my capacity when needed to ensure that it is one of the best.”
Also, Honourable Mukhtar Shagaya, Member representing Ilorin West/Asa Federal Constituency, applauded Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his visionary leadership, saying, “The university will serve as a beacon of knowledge, innovation, and professional development, equipping future educators with the skills and expertise needed to shape the minds of our youths.
“To the people of Ilorin West/Asa whom I represent, we would provide access to high-quality education, create job opportunities, and stimulate the economic development of our Constituency.
“This University will undoubtedly inspire and empower our young people to achieve their potentials.
“As a representative, I am wholeheartedly committed to supporting this project and ensuring its success. I pledge to collaborate with all stakeholders to address any challenges and facilitate the seamless development and operation of Kwara State University of Education.”
