Vandalism Causes Collapse of Five TCN Towers in Akwa Ibom

The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN has disclosed that five transmission towers along the Ikot Abasi–Eket 132kV Double Circuit Transmission Line have collapsed following extensive vandalism.
TCN, in a statement signed by its management and made available to INCNews247 on Friday, said the damage was discovered during a routine joint line patrol conducted by its linesmen on August 9, 2026.
According to the company, preliminary assessment showed that critical structural bracing members had been removed from Towers N9, J4, N10, N11 and N12, leading to their collapse.

The transmission company further revealed that structural components had also been removed from seven other towers along the same transmission corridor.
It identified the affected towers as J3, N8, N13, N14, N15, N18 and N19, warning that they had been structurally compromised and posed a risk of further collapse.
TCN said it had reconfigured the network to minimise the impact of the incident on electricity supply, with priority given to the Ekim Transmission Station.
It noted that Ibom Power was currently the only station left without supply as a result of the network configuration.
The company said its management was mobilising an urgent intervention to facilitate the reconstruction of the affected sections of the transmission line.
It added that security agencies had been notified to assist with investigations into the vandalism and prevent further attacks on the transmission infrastructure along the route.
TCN condemned the incident, describing it as an act of sabotage, and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a robust and reliable national electricity grid.
