Why I Dumped SDP for APC — Manko

Alhaji Adamu Attahiru Manko, a business mogul and former Social Democratic Party (SDP) senatorial candidate for Kwara North, has shed light on his recent decision to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), dismissing claims of defection.
According to Manko, his move to the APC is a return to his political home, as the party’s ideology aligns with his progressive beliefs.
“I always listen to my people,” he said while hosting the Association of Kwara Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP) at his residence in Ilorin. “Those familiar with my political background, family history, and ideology will know that my alignment has always been with the APC.”

Manko explained that his earlier involvement with the SDP was a matter of necessity, influenced by those around him.
However, he maintained that his return to the APC is a natural fit, given the party’s strong presence in Kwara State.
On the 2027 gubernatorial election, Manko threw his weight behind the zoning of the governorship seat to Kwara North. “I support the call for zoning the governorship to Kwara North ahead of the 2027 general elections,” he said.
“It’s time for our zone to produce the next governor. Kwara Central has had 18 years, and Kwara South has also had its turn. For the sake of justice and fairness, Kwara North should produce the next governor.”
Manko also praised President Bola Tinubu and Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for their people-focused policies, programmes, and projects.
“The APC has become so strong in Kwara that no other party can defeat it because of the performance of the present governor,” he said.
When asked about his political ambition, Manko hinted that he may contest again if God wills, expressing interest in representing the people of Kwara North Senatorial District.
“There is nothing wrong in having aspiration, and my returning to the APC, which I consider my political home,” he said.
