Tinubu’s military pay rise will boost troops’ morale — TMV

By Alabidun Shuaib AbdulRahman

The Tinubu Media Volunteers, TMV has described the salary increase approved for personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria as a major morale booster that will strengthen ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity across the country.

The group said the pay rise was one of the dividends of the reforms being implemented by the President Bola Tinubu administration.

The Chairman and Secretary of TMV, Chukwudi Enekwechi and Segun Ogedengbe, respectively, stated this in a statement on the salary increase.

The Federal Government had announced salary increases ranging between 30 per cent and 80 per cent for personnel of the armed forces.

The group noted that officers from the rank of Colonel to Brigadier-General, Major-General, Lieutenant-General and General would receive a 30 per cent increase under the new salary structure.

It described the increase as long overdue, particularly in view of the security challenges confronting the country.

“It is noted that the Federal Government had announced an increase of between 30 per cent and 80 per cent in the salaries of the armed forces personnel.

“We consider the pay rise as long overdue, especially with the numerous security challenges confronting the country. There is no doubt that the Federal Government gesture will boost the morale of the personnel to put in their best in the discharge of their onerous responsibilities,” the group said.

TMV said improved remuneration would enhance the welfare of troops and encourage them to remain committed to their responsibilities on the frontline.

The group also expressed optimism that the salary increase would contribute to a more secure Nigeria, particularly amid the prolonged threat posed by terrorists and other violent criminals.

“We also believe that the pay rise will guarantee a more secured country for all Nigerians. Definitely, this increase has come at the right time bearing in mind the high level of insecurity that has bedevilled the country for several years,” it said.

The group noted that military personnel operating on the frontline deserved improved remuneration, especially amid rising living costs and inflation affecting food and other essential commodities.

“There is no doubt that the armed forces personnel who are at the frontlines of confronting the terrorists and other violent criminals deserve an enhanced pay package, more so when the economy is beset with inflation in food items and other essential goods,” TMV stated.

It also commended the Federal Government for prioritising the welfare of troops, saying improved salaries would complement ongoing efforts to strengthen the operational capacity of the military.

The group recalled that the Tinubu administration had acquired various military equipment as part of efforts to improve the Armed Forces’ capacity to combat terrorism and other security threats.

TMV said the combination of improved remuneration and enhanced operational equipment would enable military personnel to perform their duties more effectively.

The group expressed confidence that the salary increase would go a long way towards helping the Armed Forces deliver on their constitutional mandate of protecting the nation and securing Nigerians from terrorist threats and other forms of violent crime.
