Nigerian Military Eliminates Over 75 Terrorists, Recovers 55 AK47 Rifles

The Defence Headquarters, DHQ has announced a series of notable successes in its ongoing counter-terrorism operations across the country.

 

According to the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, the military has eliminated over 75 terrorists, arrested 138 suspects, and recovered a substantial cache of arms and ammunition between January 3 and February 13, 2025.

 

The operations, which were conducted jointly with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) team, security agencies, and hybrid forces, involved a range of tactics, including fighting patrols, raids, ambushes, and air interdiction.

The military also conducted search and rescue operations, resulting in the rescue of 46 kidnapped hostages.

 

In addition to the elimination of terrorists, the military also apprehended 36 perpetrators of oil theft, further disrupting the illicit activities of these groups.

 

The operations also yielded a significant recovery of arms and ammunition, including 55 AK47 rifles, 20 locally fabricated guns, 8 dane guns, 18 pump action guns, and over 2,600 rounds of ammunition.

 

Major General Kangye, who addressed reporters in Abuja on Thursday, provided a detailed breakdown of the successes recorded by the military.

 

“Troops of Operation HADIN KAI neutralized 22 terrorists, arrested 13 others, and rescued 34 kidnapped hostages,” he said.

 

“Troops also recovered 12 AK47 rifles, 2 G3 rifles, 3 dane guns, 2 fabricated rifles, and a range of ammunition.”
