Taliban Declares Amnesty, Woos Women to Join Politics

By Alabidun Shuaib Abdulrahman

The Taliban has declared an “amnesty” across Afghanistan and asked women to join their government. This, according to reports, is an attempt to ease anxieties in a tense capital city after hundreds thronged the city’s international airport in a desperate attempt to flee the violence the day before.

As a Western security official informed Reuters news agency on Tuesday, evacuation flights from Afghanistan had resumed.

The official said military flights evacuating diplomats and civilians from Afghanistan have started taking off.

At least seven people died in Monday’s chaos, including several people who clung to the sides of a jet as it took off.

US President Joe Biden said he remained “squarely behind” his decision to remove troops from Afghanistan and slammed the country’s past Western-backed government for failing to oppose the Taliban in Washington, DC.

In a televised address from the White House, he added, “I stand completely behind my decision.” “I learned the hard way after 20 years that there was never a good time to withdraw US forces.”

Meanwhile, the Taliban has declared the Afghan war to be finished, and a senior official has stated that the group will wait until foreign forces have left before establishing a new administration structure.

Already, China has extended its “friendly relations” with the Taliban, while Russia and Iran also made diplomatic overtures.
